What We Offer

Summary

A Master's degree in Microbiology at NDSU emphasizes a strong foundation of knowledge in Microbiology and Immunology. Student research and academic programs are individually tailored to meet the needs and interests of each student. Graduates are prepared for positions in research or commercial laboratories or for further graduate and professional study. Students shall select a major advisor by the end of the first semester in residence. Students may be admitted to the research/thesis-based MS or a paper-based MS-Microbiology program. Times to completion are variable. There is a one-year curriculum available for the paper-based MS program and a research/thesis-based MS requires approximately 2 years to complete.

There are a limited number of assistantships available for students in the thesis/research-based MS-Microbiology program.

Our MS students acquire comprehensive knowledge in microbiology of infectious diseases, genomics, microbial ecology, vaccinology, food safety, physiology and a variety of other topics.
Applicants compete well when they have strong letters from reference from research advisors and professional supervisors, and a clear vision of their future career or educational goals.
