The aim of this program is to educate students in modern scientific approaches to oral biology and oral disease. The PhD program is designed for the student whose primary goal is to pursue a career in oral biology research. The oral cavity is an unique environment with novel biological interactions between the external environment, microbes, teeth, bones, and non-mineralized soft tissues, all of which interact with systemic biology in health and disease.

Successful applicants will have a B.S. or equivalent in a basic science, or a clinical degree such as DMD or MD. All candidates are expected to have had some laboratory research experience, and many successful applicants have already published a paper in an international journal.
