The Masters of Ed. in Art Ed. with a concentration in Art Therapy does not prepare students to teach; it prepares students to become art therapists. This program has been approved by the American Art Therapy Assoc. (AATA) since 1994. The obj. of the program is to prepare students to have the commitment, competence and personal qualities to help other acquire skills.
As the only university with an approved program in Michigan, our students educate the community about Art Therapy in the state.
Master's Degree, M.Ed., Master of Education Art Therapy
If the bachelor's degree was earned in art, psy. or art education the applicant must have some of the required course in psychology or art. The remainder of the prerequisite coursework may be completed concurrently with the master's degree, within one year of admission. If the bachelors' degree was earned in another field, the applicant must have completed either all the art prerequisite or all of the the psy. perquisites prior to admission to the Art Therapy Program.
This program is designed for students who desire grad prep in Art Therapy. Applicants must present evidence of the following perquisites.-A bachelor degree in a relate field-such as art, art. ed. or psy.-At least 18 semester hrs.in studio art, including drawing, painting, or sculpture.-A proficiency in drawing, painting, and sculpture. A portfolio of work is require (a min of ten prints)-Three letters of recommendation.
